Learning to play the viola
When choosing an instrument to learn, people often overlook the viola because it’s not in the spotlight as much as the violin. But that just means it’s all the more unique and more impressive to show off.
The Viola is the darker, richer sounding cousin to the violin. Slightly bigger and lower pitched, it is similar to the cello in that the strings are almost the same notes, just an octave higher, and it features the same warm sound quality. But, it is much easier to carry! So, if you don’t want to lug around a massive cello, the viola is definitely for you.
The viola is a gateway instrument to play other string instruments
The viola can also play almost anything - violin music, cello music, and of course, its own music. So, should you want to transition to another string instrument, you’ll already have a leg up having learned the viola.
Yes, the viola can be a phenomenal solo instrument. It is also really good with harmony and supporting other instruments. It is the ultimate team player! As instrument playing goes, if you’d prefer to blend into a big group, the viola could be a great fit.

In lessons, both traditional and Suzuki methods are used, and our teachers prepare their students for school exams as well as music board exams such as AMEB and Trinity College London Exams. Preparing for school exams can be helpful in validating a student’s progress whilst giving them a thrilling sense of accomplishment.
